Rowrah Super One rd1 – Top 10 in large super strong grid

Jack had a super solid first round at the Super One nationals. The circuit was Rowrah in Cumbria and the weather was wet, very wet. After nearly three years out of karting and only starting to test at the end of last summer, it was  a satisfying one. Good qualifying and heats, grew into solid points all weekend. Top 10 in the final, leaving Jack in joint 7th in the Championship, the karting “hobby” away from the rally preparation has started well.

Jack Vs Mark Litchfield at Rowrah

Back in December, Jack spent a full day testing at Rowrah with championship winning karter Mark Lichfield.
Mark has been a mentor to Jack throughout his junior career, helping him to improve his performance and get the most out of his talent as a driver.

We’d planned the testing as part of Jack’s preparation for the 2017 SuperOne season where Jack will be taking part in all rounds including Rowrah and PFI.  The main goal of the session was to help familiarise Jack with the performance of the Super One spec kart in challenging winter conditions, and also to give him a strong benchmark for his times against the experienced 5-time British Champion Litchfield.

Over the course of the day, Jack and Mark took it in turns to drive around the tight circuit swapping fastest times as they tuned the kart to the conditions.

So, how did they do?

Here’s a GoPro recording of their fastest laps around Rowrah, showing how they approached the challenging circuit on a cold day:

February 2017 – Rowrah Kart Track, 2nd Place

Jack had a good result to start February at the Rowrah Karting Circuit with a strong 2nd place in a competitive field.  This was really positive for Jack, as the he will be returning to the track in March for the opening round of the SuperOne championship.

The first round of the SuperOne Series takes place on 18th March at Rowrah, and we’re expecting a strong result on the day.

18 December 2016 – Buckmore Park, 2nd Place

Jack had a good result at the December meeting at Buckmore Park in the run up to Christmas, with a strong second place finish in a mixed class field.

Driving in the Senior X30 Class that he’ll be competing in during 2017, Jack finished well, coming second in the last race of the year in tricky foggy conditions.

The result marks the end of a good year for Jack which has included him being invited to study on the elite MSA programme at Loughborough College.

11 December 2016 – Hunts Kart Racing Club

Jack had a good result at the Hunts Kart Racing Club at the weekend, finishing 7th out of a strong field in the Senior X30 class.

It was a competitive drive on the Kimbolton Circuit which can be fairly challenging in the wintry conditions.hkrc_map_track_v18_2015_circuit_1

This was Jack’s penultimate preparation race before taking part in the full X30 Senior British Karting Championship in 2017 where he is expecting to get strong results.

Jack to Drive in the Super One Karting Series in 2017

Jack has earned a place on the grid for the 2017 Super One Series – the top tier of kart racing in the UK.

Super One is highly competitive, and features some of the best racers in the country competing in close racing at some iconic circuits over the course of the season.

Jack will be racing in the following events:

As the top tier of kart racing in the UK, Super One benefits from full coverage on Motors TV during race weekends, making it a great opportunity for sponsors and supporters to build awareness of their brands.

Jack’s looking forward to a strong year in the class, with the opportunity to prove himself against some of the best racers in the country and demonstrate his potential to a wider audience.

Testing at Shenington, October 2016

As part of his preparations for a full season racing the X30 at senior level in the 2017 Championship, Jack spent a day at Shenington testing with Mark Litchfield in late October.

We made a conscious decision to hold back on racing in 2016 while Jack focused on his GCSEs and qualifying for the AASE course at Loughborough College, so the testing sessions focused on familiarisation with both the track and the new kart to get him ready ahead of a return to the track at Whilton Mill.
